Nokia N87 leaked

From yesterday presentation, Nokia said that in 2010, their touchscreen smartphone portfolio will expand by delivering more models.

Now, a video on youtube showing what looks like a leaked documen of Nokia N87. A touchscreen phone equiped with 12 megapixel camera, large capacitive and internal 16gb storage.

New Symbian touch interface in 2010

In yesterday even, Nokia showed their plan to continue improving user experience by introducing a new user interface for Symbian touch screen phone.

The plan is split into 2 phase. In the first half of 2010, they will launch improved UI over todays Symbian S60 5th. Later at the end of the year, a completely new version will be launch, along with new Maemo 6.

Convert video to mp4 for Nokia 5800, N97 and other Symbian phone

Having difficulties to convert you video collection to playable format for your Nokia 5800 (or N97)? Personally i do.

I have read many article and forum posting, and many of them needed special software (most is commercial, so you have to pay for it), or using converter originally intended for other devices (Zune, iPod or Nokia N800). Or even using text based converter that can easily make you and i had a headache.

I just found the solution, is actually free and very easy to use. I use VLC to convert my video to playable mp4 format for my Nokia 5800 (should be good for N97, Sony Ericcson Satio, or Omnia HD).

VLC itself is a very powerfull video player, converter and streaming engine. Its an opensource software so it free to use and available for most popular operating system (Linux, Windows and MacOSX). It also able to play most audio and video codec. I have tried to play and convert divx, rmvb, flv and avi with no problem.

Want to try, heres how.

1. Obtain the installer here and install VLC to your system.
2. Open VLC and click Media>Convert/Save

3. In the Open window, find and pick the video you want to convert.

4. Once you pick it, you have a Stream Output window. Click File. Click browser, here, select the place and the name of the new file (like yourvideo.mp4)

5. Then, see the drop down box? Click it, and selec MPEG-4 audio ACC profile. After you've done, click Save button.

6. Right now, all you have to do is sit down and relax. Depend of your computer speed, VLC will started to convert you video.
7. If it finished. Just plug your Nokia 5800 and copy the new video to it. Done..enjoy the show :)

Nokia N97 firware update

For everyone who have the Nokia N97, Nokia will release a firmware update (v11.x.021) for this uberphone.

We're not sure in what region it will be available at first. The best way is to check it yourself.
Fire up your NSU and get the update!

Nokia 5530, new Symbian S60 5th music smartphone

Nokia just introduce 5530, their new touchscreen music smartphone. The 5530 is positioned just bellow the Nokia 5800 and using the same Xpress Music badge.

Being positioned as a lower touchscreen smartphone, the Nokia 5530 use 2,9inc display (smaller than Nokia 5800), and came without 3G or GPS capability. However, its nice to see that Nokia keep the wifi adapter.

Sony Ericsson Satio - New Symbian S60 5th phone

Symbian S60 5th edition got a new member today. Its called Satio.
Satio, formerly known as Sony Ericsson Idou , was planned to use a new Symbian base OS developed by Symbian Foundation. But, it seems that Symbian Foundation can't finish the new OS and Sony Ericsson switch to S50 5th edition.

The Sony Ericsson Satio will be available in Black, Silver or Bordeaux colors complete with color-matching headphones and a 8GB microSD card in the retail package.

A US version of the Idou will also be available that will ship with tri-band UMTS/HSPA support (850/1900/2100 MHz) - it's supposed to hit the shelves from early Q4 2009.

Iphone Facebook on Nokia 5800

Have a Facebook? i bet you do.
I'm sure you know that our Nokia 5800 can open Facebook page just fine.
But, if you curious, you can also update your status, send a massange via Facebook page specially designed for Apple Iphone on your Nokia 5800.

Why this is possible? Because, just in case you haven't know, both phone is actually using web browser base on the same WebKit engine.

Anyway, by using iphone version of Facebook pages, you can have all the special effect that designed for iphone in your Nokia 5800. Zooming, sliding page when clicking to another link is present.

Is quite nice..and it feels lite with my wifi connection.

Nokia N97 official page goes online

Nokia had just make the official page of the long waited Nokia N97 available online.

In the website, you can try some of Nokia N97 unique feature, like customizing home screen with widget and so on with its interactive flash demo.

And best off all, you can put your preorder, now! Engadget says that it will be available for $699. Lets see the actual price when it is release.

Youtube Application for Nokia 5800

Google just released an update of their Youtube app for Nokia 5800, Nokia N97 and Samsung Omnia HD. This time, the app will be fully compatible with touchscreen operated Symbian S60V5.

The previous version, which is only available in selected country (to download), only give partial support. One feature that didn't working in the past is the search form.

However, many blogs said that there the application is still not fully supported the Symbian S60V5. Fullscreen playback still limited to 240x320 pixel, and no HD option available.

Handwriting calculator for Nokia 5800

Another beta software from Nokia Betalabs.Its called Nokia Handwriting Calculator.

Just like its name Nokia Handwriting calculator use the touchscreen capability of Nokia 5800 (or other Symbian S60V5 based phone) to do calculating by drawing number and mathematics expression directly on the screen.

I've try it myself. And you know, its quite good to recognize our handwriting. You can calculated many mathematics formula that originally quite difficult to do with traditional calculator.

Its also good for teaching kids mathematics, i think, with more fun way.

Nokia messaging for Symbian S60 5th

Nokia has just released the beta version of its Nokia messaging for Symbian S60 5th. This product is released to gather feedback from us, the user.

Nokia messaging is a complete email solution from Nokia. It support various favorite email services like Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail. It even support your self hosted mail server.

This beta, is release in English and Spanish language sets, and can be use (officially) for you who live in these country:
Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and Venezuela.

Nokia is planned to introduce the new Nokia messaging final for Symbian S60V5 sometimes in May from Nokia Messaging website

The application emulated the sound of light saber when swingged, just like Skywalker did in the movie. A must have for you, Star wars lover.

Lightsaber for Nokia 5800 is simple, just pick the light color, setting some sensitivity and you ready to go going crazy swingging your 5800. Just be carefull, you might drop it or trowing your 5800 away. Im warn you :)

Nokia 5800, number one music player in UK

Despite of some critics from many tech blogger around the world, Nokia 5800 is still continue to make hit sales anywhere it is intoduced. The news coming from Nokia chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo himself.

With about 1 million set sold each month, retailers reported stock shortages on the product. Nokia has acknowledged the inital ‘capacity’ problems with the product.

Nokia also claim that Nokia 5800 is now number one portable digital music player in UK. ccording to GFK Retail and Technology data, the Nokia 5800 was the top device in both volume and value in Q1 in the UK. This makes it the best selling portable music player.

Proxy setting for Nokia 5800

Sometimes you're inside a Hotspot or WLAN that required you to set up Proxy for browsing the internet.

Here are a little tips how to setup Proxy setting for a given Wifi access point in Nokia 5800. It should be the same for other Symbian S60V5 phone (maybe for Omnia HD too).

Go to "Setting" > "Connectivity" > "Destinations" > "Internet"
Inside internet, Pick the access point that you want to setup the proxy.
Once you pick, click option. You should see a box in popup.
Click "Advance settings"
There, you should see "Proxy server address", click on in to input your proxy address.
Don't forget to set the "Proxy port number" too.

Thats it..You should be able to browse now :)

Firmware V21 for Nokia 5800 available

World on the street has said that the new firmware update for Nokia 5800 is now available. Well. at least in Hong Kong (probably in India and Phillipines too)

The new firmware, dubbed V21 is said brings some minor improvement. From various forum, someone who had install it said that
- Faster boot and shutdown
- The system feels more responsive
- New icon for some application
- Updated search application
- Video playing feel more responsive

For the rest of us, you can wait until the firmware available for your region (which is somethimes takes forever). Or, if you had the guts, follow the traditional method to change your product code and get the update.

Its mean Hello World in Indonesia language. Yeah, i always like to follow the tradition :)
This another blog, another about symbian phone and so on.

Well, i just bought my Nokia 5800 2 months ago. And ever since, i closely follow what happen everything around it. Then i thought, why not sharing it with fellow user?
